Energy Audits
Before you consider any renewable enrgy system, it’s important to first reduce your energy consumption.
In an Energy Audit we discuss your current electrical and natural gas usage in detail. We list electrical loads room-by-room, estimating hours-per-day usage. We look especially at large loads like furnaces, refrigerators and freezers, hot tubs, and home entertainment centers. We examine your annual utility bills and look for opportunities to conserve without undue daily impacts.
An Energy Audit can reduce your monthly utility bill and shrink your carbon footprint.
An Energy Audit for a typical single-family home costs $200 and requires about two hours of your time. Costs for other building types can be quoted on request.
Solar Assessment
In a Solar Assessment we examine your current utility bills and talk with you about your goals and expectations for a solar electric system. We perform a month-by-month analysis of your site’s potential “solar window”, allowing for shading from trees and buildings during each month of the year. We provide you with a detailed report summarizing this information and making a recommendation for an appropriate solar electric system. The report details the monthly cash-flow and long-term payback for the proposed system.
A Solar Assessment also includes a mini energy audit, since research shows that every $1 spent conserving electricity reduces the cost of the solar system needed by $3-5.
A Solar Assessment for a typical single-family home costs $400 and requires up to 2 hours of your time. Costs for other building types can be quoted on request.The Focus on Energy program may rebate 60% of the cost of a Solar Assessment for most Wisconsin residents (50% for non-residential buildings).
Buyer’s Agent Services
As a Buyer’s Agent, we work with installers to get quotes on your behalf. We can provide references for installers in your area. We screen follow-up questions from the installers to protect your time and speed the process. We summarize their quotes for you, and explain any differences. We work with the installer to make sure the final installation is up to your expectations.
Time spent acting as a buyers agent is billed at $75/hr, with agreed-upon not-to-exceed limits at each step.
Energy Strategy Consulting
We can help your family, church or business take a look at its long-term energy situation and develop a strategy to:

We can examine your current energy consumption and sources. We can study your existing heating, cooling, lighting, and entertainment appliances for efficiency and make recommendations about replacement cycles and alternate fuels. We can inform you of subsidies and tax credits that may assist you in upgrading. We can assist you in evaluating alternative methods of financing renewable energy systems.
